Shoulder Injuries - Types
Rotator Cuff

A rotator cuff injury is an injury to one or more of the four muscles in the shoulder (see diagram). These muscles, along with tendons, keep the humerus connected to the shoulder blade. A rotator cuff injury can be any type of irritation or damage to your rotator cuff muscles or tendons.

Symptoms of a rotator cuff injury may include:

  • Pain and tenderness in the shoulder, especially when reaching behind your back, lifting, pulling or sleeping on the affected side.
  • Shoulder weakness
  • Loss of shoulder range of motion

If the pain has lasted more than a week and is severe, a doctor should be consulted as soon as possible.
