Shoulder Injuries - Types Impingement Syndrome Impingement syndrome occurs when repeated overhead arm action causes the rotator cuff to rub against the end of the shoulder blade where the collarbone is attached (acromion). It's basically an irritation of the soft tissues of the shoulder.
